The practice of a beginner's mind
Thirteenth-century Sufi Poet Rumi invites,
Come, come, whoever you are.
Wanderer, worshipper, lover of leaving. It doesn’t matter.
Ours is not a caravan of despair.
Come, even if you have broken your vow a hundred times.
Come, yet again, come, come.
The practice of a “beginner’s mind”
Bringing the mind and heart of a beginner to our daily lives helps us to discover the wisdom offered in each moments.
Like cells in our bodies, Something needs to die so the new can takes its place.
Not that the old is bad, but what if the new is better?
Mourn, if you must, for what’s lost. Allow the sadness and anguish to loom over you.
And then, slowly, let it sail away.
Prejudging nothing.
Criticising nothing.
Remaining only childlike.
When the sun rises,
you begin
from the beginning.
